40 Days for Life is a national program that works to end abortion through prayer and acts of kindness outside of clinics that perform abortions, provide chemical abortions, or refer women to abortion. Every Lent members from our parish participate in the 40 Days for Life prayer vigil outside of Health First in Wausau, praying for an end to abortion. Catholic Charities is a national organization that provides financial and other services to those in need in our community. St. Matthew's is one of the financial sponsors of Catholic Charities in Wausau. One of the most well-known services Catholic Charities provides in Wausau is the Warming Center, which offers meals and overnight shelter in the winter months for adults without a place to sleep at night. If you would like to volunteer at Catholic Charities or are in need of assistance, please contact: 715-849-3311.
Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, the Healing Fire of the Spirit Prayer Group meets in the Angelorum of the church. Meetings are from 6:30-8:00 pm. Meetings begin with praise and worship, followed by individual prayer with Scripture. People share insights and words of wisdom, as well as intentions for the group to pray for. Jubilee House is an independent organization that serves a free community meal in the school cafeteria every Thursday from 4:30 pm-6:00 pm. Jubilee House was founded in the spirit of Dorothy Day and her Catholic Worker Houses, which provide similar community meals. Different groups from the community prepare and serve meals, as well as build community with those who attend. Every 1st Friday of the month, volunteers visits and bring Communion to members of our parish who are either homebound or reside in an assisted living facility or nursing home. These parishioners really enjoy staying connected to the parish and being able to receive our Lord in Holy Communion. The Money Counter Groups are the groups who take turns counting the contributions we receive on the weekend. These individuals have an eye for deal and also enjoy the time spend with each other. If you are interested in volunteering for this ministry, contact Jerry Grunow.
