Programs & Ministries

GIFTS OF TIME AND TALENT
WORSHIP
· Sacred Worship Committee - Promote & evaluate parish worship and prayer life. Meets monthly during the school year.
· Minister of the Word (Lector) - Proclaim the Scriptures at parish liturgies. Grade 8 through adult.
· Minister of the Eucharist - Minister Holy Communion at parish Masses; must be confirmed.
· Musicians - Accompany choir, cantor & congregation.
· Adult Choir - Sing at liturgies/special celebrations. High school students welcome.
· Funeral Choir - Sing at funeral liturgies.
· Youth Choir - (Grades 3-12) Sing and play monthly for weekend liturgies.
· Youth Choir Director - Direct youth choir.
· Cantor - Lead the congregation in song.
· Servers - Serve at the altar for liturgical celebrations. Grades 3 through adult.
· Minister of Hospitality (Usher/Greeters) - Welcome, seat parishioners, and take up the collection.
· Ministry of Prayer - Offer prayers privately for the parish community.
· Worship Environment Committee - Plan and assist with church decorations for Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter and Ordinary Time.
· Communion Minister to the Sick - Minister to the sick/homebound.
· Children's Liturgy of the Word - Break open the Word with children during the 10:00 Mass. Leaders and assistants needed.
· Ecumenical Committee - Help promote Christian unity within the Wausau community.
· Music Minister - Coordinate, schedule cantors and musicians for liturgies.

CATHOLIC EDUCATION
ADULT
· Parish Education Committee - Plan and promote religious education programs for all age levels. Meets every other month.
· Scripture Sharing - Gather to reflect on Scriptures.
· Faith Sharing Group - Gather to share faith, to explore church-related topics, and to support and affirm faith.
· RCIA Team Member - Adults who meet to pray and plan the RCIA process.
· RCIA Catechist - Provide instruction for adults or children preparing for baptism, and/or full communion with the Church.
· RCIA Sponsor - Serve as a companion for those preparing for initiation or reception into the Church.
· RCIA Hospitality - Provide coffee and snacks for one or more RCIA sessions/receptions.
· Sacrament Preparation Catechist and Helpers - Work with families in preparation for Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, Confirmation.
· Evangelization Committee - Participate in various efforts to assist inactive and returning Catholics.

SCHOOL
· Helping Hand - Assist St. Matthew Middle School teachers and/or tutor when needed.
· Hot Lunch Substitute - Help prepare lunch for students, staff, help with food preparation for special events.
· Share a Culture/Career/Hobby - Share your expertise with SMMS, Holy Name or St. Anne Elementary School , as needed.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
· Elementary Catechist - Grades K-6 on Wednesday evenings
· Junior High Catechist - Grades 7-8 Sunday evenings (perhaps Wednesday evenings)
· Catechist Aide - Substitute for K - 12
· High School Catechist - Teach high school students (grades 9-12) on Wednesday evenings
· Office Assistant - Assist in office during religious education sessions Wednesday evenings.
· Fireside Chats with Father Bob - Adults to assist with high school faith sharing and recreation once a month.
· Family Night - Adults to help with family event. Four times a year.

FAMILY LIFE
· Parish Family Life Committee - Welcomes new parishioners and plans fellowship activities. Meets monthly.
· Youth Group Team - Adults interested in helping with youth activities/service projects
· Youth Group Member - (grades 6-young adult) interested in participating in youth activities/service projects.
· Parish Council of Catholic Women - Ladies' group that supports the parish through various projects and the development of spiritual life.
· Men's Club - Social and Service Group for men of all ages.
· Parish Marriage Preparation (FOCCUS) Couple - Confer and share with those preparing for marriage.
· Deanery Marriage Preparation Couple - Work with engaged couples on a Saturday, preparing and presenting talks.
· Welcome Newcomers - Send notes of welcome to new parishioners
· Ministry of Praise - Adults to write letters bimonthly to homebound parishioners.
· Vocation · Helpers with Focus on Family Life Newsletter - Editor and contributors to the newsletter.
· Youth Council - Members needed to help plan for the future of youth ministry in the parish. Grades 9 through young adult.

JUSTICE & PEACE
· Parish Justice & Peace Committee - Coordinate local and global justice and peace activities. Meets every other month.
· Right to Life - Organize & promote pro-life activities in the parish; Roses for Life, signature ad campaign, etc.
· Wausau Manor Volunteer - Gather residents on Tuesdays for Mass or Communion Service.
· Jubilee House (Catholic Worker House of Hospitality) - Core group meetings Monday 5:30 p.m. , Guest Hospitality every Thursday, 4-7 p.m. Cleaning on Friday mornings.
· Helping Hands for Jamaica - Assist with outreach to our sister parish of Holy Cross.
· Spare Hands - Simple household repairs, raking, shoveling, mowing for our elderly or disabled parishioners
· Parish Visitor - Visit the homebound, elderly, or lonely in Outreach from the Parish.
· Stewardship Committee - Help develop a vision of stewardship for the parish; prepare the annual parish stewardship of time/talent/treasure.

SPECIAL TALENTS
· Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Heating, Masonry, Painting, Photography, Snow Shoveling, Lawn/Yard Work, Cooking, Maintain Parish Website

OTHER NEEDS
· Parish Pastoral Council - Help determine and evaluate pastoral needs of the parish; develop programs to meet these needs. Meets monthly.
· Parish Finance Council - Help develop a yearly budget and review it on a monthly basis as well as offer suggestions to meet the budget. Meets monthly.
· Computer Operator - Help with parish computer work: data entry, Quicken.
· Janitor Substitute - Does janitor duties in absence of janitor.
· Cleaning Church As needed.Committee - Work with Holy Name of Jesus Parish to promote vocations to priesthood & religious life.
· St. Matthew Dinner Club - Meet monthly to share food and fellowship at members' homes.
· Adult Helpers for one-time projects - Projects such as the Mass of Anointing reception, Tree of Love helpers and other events.


· Mailings Help with bulk mailings (folding, stuffing envelopes, etc).
· Phone Callers - Make calls for parish activities.
· Parish Newsletter (St Matthew's Matters) Write articles for quarterly newsletter.
· Parish Hospitality - Help with parish socials (First Communion, Confirmation, etc.)
· Coffee and Donuts - Host coffee and donuts after Sunday Masses.
· Funeral Luncheon - Help prepare and serve luncheon for the family.
· Kitchen Help - Help in the kitchen at parish dinners.
· Waitstaff Help - Help wait tables at parish dinners.
· Bus Tables/ Wash Dishes - Help during parish dinners.
· Scrip Sellers - Sell Scrip certificates after weekend Masses.
· Fun Days - Assist with annual St. Matthew summer festival.
· Fun Days Co-Chair - Learn the ropes with the current Fun Days chairperson with the intention of eventually chairing the event.
· Holly Hall - Assist with annual one-day holiday bazaar in November.
· Holly Hall Co-Chair Learn the ropes with the current Holly Hall chairperson with the intention of eventually chairing the event. Responsibilities include contacting and contracting with the crafts vendors who rent space for the event.
· Holly Hall Publicity/Advertising Promote the event by placing ads and announcements in local media and community calendars.
· Holly Hall Setup Coordinator Assist the current setup coordinator with intent of eventually taking the lead. The position involves 2 part days out of the year. The setup layout is already preset on drawings to simplify work.
· Senior Citizens' Luncheon Help at holiday get-together in December.
· Pre-Lenten/Valentine's Dinner & Dance Help at annual parish event.
· Lenten Soup Makers Help Soup Supper chairs make the soup and fixin's Tuesday evenings during Lent.
· Lenten Soup Suppers Kitchen, serving, and cleanup help Wednesdays during Lent.
· Raffles Help event chairpeople with raffle-related tasks throughout the year.
· Treasure Sale and Auction Help at new parish fund-raiser held in September.
